On the sidelines of a scientific conference for volcanologists organized at the USMB by the Volcanic Geophysics and Geothermal Energy team ofthe Institute of Earth Sciences (ISTerre), a public screening of Werner Herzog’s film “In the Heart of Volcanoes. Requiem for Katia and Maurice Krafft” by Werner Herzog is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 8:30 p.m. at the Astrée cinema in Chambéry.
About the film
Drawing on the captivating film archives of the renowned volcanologists Katia and Maurice Krafft, Werner Herzog powerfully and poetically celebrates the lives—brutally cut short in 1991—of two researchers and filmmakers whose work was truly unique. Thirty years later, this film brings their breathtaking images back to life and pays tribute to this legendary couple.
A must-see film to learn more about scientific advances in volcanology, eruption forecasting, volcanoes in France and around the world, and the profession of volcanologist!
