Modern Languages Week 2018 – Lecture-debate and roundtable discussion: Bringing together businesses and the education sector to discuss modern foreign languages

On Wednesday,May 16, as part of the Modern Languages Fair and an international seminar, the Cityof Chambéry is hosting an evening event bringing together businesses and the education sector to discuss modern foreign languages. A major challenge, proficiency in multiple modern languages is seenasadecisiveadvantagefor entering the workforce.Two speakers will address the audience during this event, which will take place in the Decottignies Amphitheater at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc’s main campus:

Roundtable Discussion: “ Language Skills, Intercultural Skills, and Employability ”
This roundtable will provide an opportunity to exchange perspectives and learn about so-called “immersive” practices that are little known to the general public. “Immersive” teaching has been emerging in France over the past few years, particularly in our school district, which is a pioneer in this field. This type of teaching has long existed in other countries. How does it improve student performance and their future employability?

Designed to highlight languages and linguistic diversity in schools and educational institutions, as well as outside the school setting, this event is a key moment for encouraging language learning. It is aimed at all elementary, middle, and high school students, as well as their families and the general public. The theme chosen for 2018 is "Let's dare to speak languages, from kindergarten to university." Held every year in May, this week aims to raise public awareness of the linguistic diversity that exists in France and the advantages of learning modern languages. It also aims to encourage people to learn and use them.
