CDPPOC Seminar – Iatrogenic Risk: What Are the Issues, What Compensation Is Available, and What Procedures Apply for Victims of Medication?

March 2, 2018, 9:00 a.m. - March 2, 2018, 6:00 p.m.

On Friday, March 2, the Center for Private and Public Law on Obligations and Consumer Affairs is hosting a seminar titled “Iatrogenic Risk: What Are the Issues, What Compensation Is Available, and What Procedures Are in Place for Victims of Medication?” on the Jacob-Bellecombette campus.

About the seminar

Event honoring the "Liliane Daligand" class of the Master's in Private Law program, specializing in personal injury law

Supervised by: Ms . Laurence Clerc-Renaud – Assistant Professor of Private Law, Savoie Mont Blanc University

Distilbène, the hepatitis B vaccine, Levothyrox, Mediator, Depakine, third- and fourth-generation birth control pills, etc. Who hasn’t heard of these drugs, which are at the center of legal and media headlines—and sometimes at the heart of controversy? How can we address the “adverse effects” of these drugs when they affect these “compelled consumers” suffering from conditions that are often severely disabling? Who is liable, and on what grounds? Who should bear the burden of compensating for iatrogenic risk? The manufacturer? The prescriber? National solidarity? What procedures and strategies can be implemented to achieve this goal of compensation?
The seminar aims to explore this highly topical issue from both theoretical and practical perspectives, in the presence of specialized practitioners and academics.
