On Tuesday, September 4, 2018, the Annecy Laboratory of Particle Physics (LAPP) will host physicist Remo Ruffini, who is visiting Annecy, for a special seminar on “Prediction of a supernova associated with a gamma-ray burst and conceptual implications.”
The seminar (in English) will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Marcel Vivargent Auditorium at LAPP on the Annecy campus.
About Remo Ruffini
Remo Ruffini was a professor of theoretical physics at the University of Rome, “La Sapienza,” from 1978 to 2012. Together with John A. Wheeler, he first introduced the concept of a “black hole” to astrophysics. His theoretical work led to the identification of the first black hole in our galaxy. Remo Ruffini is the director of ICRANet, the International Centre for Relativistic Astrophysics Network. He is also president of the International Centre for Relativistic Astrophysics (ICRA) and director of the International Relativistic Astrophysics PhD Program (IRAP Erasmus Mundus PhD), a joint program involving various universities (including USMB) for training astrophysicists, of which Paschal Chardonnet (LAPTh) is a member. In 1984, Ruffini co-founded the Marcel Grossmann Conferences with Abdus Salam.
