Defense by Jean COLLOMB

December 6, 2018, 10:00 a.m.

On Thursday, December 6, 2018, Jean COLLOMB, PhD student in engineering sciences at Systèmes et Matériaux pour la Mécatronique (SYMME), will defend his thesis entitled "Optimization of the thermomechanical dimensioning process of Autonomous Molds with Efficient Heat Transfer for rapid transformation of continuous-reinforced composite materials."

The defense will take place at 10 a.m. in room B120 at Polytech Annecy-Chambéry, 5 chemin de Bellevue, on the Annecy campus.

Thesis summary

The aim of this work is to propose: (i) a new concept for low thermal inertia tooling designed for the rapid transformation of high-performance composites in order to meet industrial challenges, (ii) a new approach to the dimensioning and thermal optimization of tooling based on the use of a low-cost finite element model. The approach is based on three main areas: (i) establishing a process for estimating the convective coefficient and modeling the thermoregulator, taking into account the technological data of the heating system (fluid, thermal power, regulation, pump), (ii) developing a thermomechanical optimization approach under constraints, based on metamodeling and genetic algorithm optimization methods, (iii) qualifying the complete approach using experimental campaigns to compare it with numerical results.
