On Friday, December 14, 2018, Francesco PATRUCCO, doctoral student in literature and arts specializing in general and comparative literature at the Languages, Literatures, Societies, Cross-Border and International Studies Laboratory (LLSETI), will defend his thesis entitled "A Work in Dialogue: Borrowings and References to European Literature in Maurizio Cucchi."
The defense will take place at 2 p.m. in room 10011 on the Jacob-Bellecombette campus.
Thesis summary
The thesis approaches Maurizio Cucchi's poetry from an intertextual and comparative perspective. It seeks to understand how European literature (from Meister Eckhart to Jacques Prévert, via Rutebeuf, Villon, Balzac, Edgar Allan Poe, and Franz Kafka) influenced the Italian poet's work and how the intertextual criticism of the 1970s, from Bakhtin to Kristeva, Genette, and others, was integrated into the composition of his works. An analysis of the themes and techniques at work in the writing of Maurizio Cucchi highlights three forms of intertextuality: direct quotation, transformation, and the complicit sharing of a family resemblance with authors considered essential to the poet's literary formation. Whether implicit or explicit, these references open Cucchi's work to world literature and place it firmly in the contemporary context.
