On Tuesday, December 18, 2018, Meriem HAFSI, a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science and Information Technology atthe Laboratory of Computer Science, Systems, Information Processing, and Knowledge (LISTIC), will defend her dissertation titled “Geodetection of Buried Networks through Multimodal Knowledge Fusion and Spatial Reasoning.”

The defense will take place at 10 a.m. in Lecture Hall B120 at Polytech Annecy-Chambéry, on the Annecy campus.

Thesis summary

The aim of this thesis is to address the challenge of detecting underground networks. Several methods are currently in use, but they have limitations due to soil conditions, pipe materials, and the substance being transported. Our goal is to propose a new approach based on the fusion of four detection methods and the collection of various types of information, which will be represented as knowledge and enable reasoning at different levels of abstraction, in order to detect buried pipelines with a high degree of confidence, regardless of their material, the substance they transport, or the soil in which they are buried.
