In collaboration with The Shifters Savoie*, a round table discussion entitled "Climate denial and fake news: how can we make ourselves heard? Citizen issues in environmental communication"will bring together:
- Arnaud CARRE, lecturer and researcher at the Inter-University Laboratory of Psychology, Personality, Cognition, and Social Change (LIP/PC2S), Faculty of Arts, Languages, and Humanities (University of Savoie Mont Blanc, LLSH);
- Claire PORTIER, Associate Professor of Public Law (University of Savoie Mont Blanc, CERDAF);
- Amélie Deloche, co-founder of the Paye ton influence collective, which raises awareness and supports influencers in becoming actors of ecological transition.
Three different perspectives to shed light on the debate
Each guest's presentation and discussion will focus on three successive perspectives to enrich and contrast the discussion:
- What are the democratic challenges facing environmental communication? The modalities of citizen participation, public debate, and appropriate public policies will be discussed.
- How do the media and social networks bear responsibility for addressing these issues in a context of proliferating fake news and pressure from certain lobbies?
- How can messages about climate change be subject to psychological barriers by the individuals who receive them (cognitive biases, eco-anxiety, denial, etc.) and reduce their scope and effectiveness?
Dialogue with witnesses from civil society and the general public
The contribution of field experiences from civil society actors will enrich the debate:
- Gaëtan Gaudissard, professional skier and media creator;
- Shabnam Anvar, specializing in creating collective dynamics and New Imaginaries.
And you, as citizens and individuals, we hope to see many of you there to listen, discuss, and ask questions so that we can think together about the challenges of tomorrow!

* Learn more about Les Shifters Savoie
The Shifters association, composed entirely of volunteers (more than 20,000 supporters nationwide), aims to raise awareness among all sectors of society (economic and political decision-makers, students, the general public) about energy and climate issues. It draws on the work of The Shift Project, a think tank founded by Jean-Marc Jancovici and other figures committed to transition issues, and seeks to stimulate debate around energy and ecological transition.
The local group The Shifters Savoie brings together around 80 people working in the region to facilitate and accelerate the transition through various actions: organizing Shifters conferences, film screenings and debates, conferences and discussions with various partners including the University of Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), etc.
