Allergies, eczema: diseases of the 21st century?

An allergy is an exaggerated immune response, characterized by the body’s hypersensitivity to substances found in the environment. Allergens can be found in the air, food, medications, and so on. The resulting symptoms can vary widely: allergic rhinitis, atopic eczema, asthma, conjunctivitis, and so on.

In recent decades, the number of people with allergies has increased. Today, in France, between 25% and 30% of the population suffers from allergies.

Why is this condition becoming more common? What are its causes and contributing factors? What treatments are available? How can people better manage their condition on a daily basis and improve their quality of life? How can we change perceptions of allergies such as atopic eczema and address the psychological effects associated with this condition?

Come and discuss this topic with experts in the field:

  • Arnaud Carré, Assistant Professor of Psychology,Interuniversity Psychology Laboratory(LIP/PC2S, USMB-UGA)
  • Dr. Magali Bourrel-Bouttaz, a dermatologist in Chambéry and author of several books on eczema.
