PASSVAL: Promoting and Preserving the Heritage of Learned Societies

The “PASSVAL – Promotion and Transmission of the Heritage of Learned Societies” project is funded by the European Union as part of the second call for proposals for the selection of microprojects under the Interreg Alcotra 2021–2027 program, Priority Axis 4 – Investment Priority 4 – Specific Objective 4.6: PASSVAL (Ref.: 21757 | 1743693651).

It focuses on the prestigious Saint-Anselme Academy in Aosta and the Florimontane Academy (Annecy), both of which are distinguished by their extensive archival collections and their production of significant multidisciplinary knowledge that is little known to the general public.

The project will operate on three levels.

  1. The first initiative will connect academic communities to promote mobility and build strong ties, including with higher education institutions in the region.
  2. The second aims to study and promote the tangible and intangible heritage of the two academies. The project’s uniqueness lies in its action research (scientific research and promotion) conducted jointly by undergraduate and graduate students from both universities, in collaboration with academy members and faculty researchers.
  3. The third component aims to raise awareness among a broad audience, particularly among young people, who will also serve as ambassadors for the project.

Finally, the project will help enhance the appeal of this heritage site, with a view to promoting sustainable tourism.

Objectives

  • To revitalize the social and cultural role of learned societies in the Alpine region by highlighting and promoting their tangible and intangible heritage, both locally and across borders.
  • Boost the visibility and attendance at the academies, particularly among young people.

Type of Action Planned

The involvement of this new audience will have an impact on attendance at the academies’ cultural facilities and activities (libraries, events).

Calendar

The PASSVAL project will run from May 4, 2026, to November 3, 2027.
