ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The pierre aux Pieds, the engravings at Lac de l'Arcelle and the Lozes archaeological park bear witness to life in the Alps during the Neolithic and proto-historic periods. In the Haute-Maurienne region, the latest figures put the number of engraved rocks at some 800, spread over 130 sites and 21 communes. Far from being anecdotal, these sites, paradoxically of prime archaeological importance, remain little known to the general public.

What factors explain the invisibility of these heritages? To what extent does their enhancement represent an opportunity for diversification in mountain areas where the challenge is to renew their tourism offering? What can be done to make these heritages visible and turn them into resources for Savoie's regions?
