The conference “Rock Art Sites in Haute-Maurienne: Little-Known Heritage Sites ” will be presented by Mélanie DUVAL and Yoann COLLANGE, respectively a researcher and a doctoral student at the Laboratory of Mountain Environments, Dynamics, and Territories (EDYTEM), Faculty of Sciences and Mountain Studies. This lecture will take place on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. at La Turbine Sciences in Annecy (entrance via Le Cinéma la Turbine).

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
The Pierre aux Pieds, the rock engravings at Lac de l’Arcelle, and the Lozes Archaeological Park bear witness to life in the Alps during the Neolithic and Protohistoric periods. In Haute-Maurienne, the latest surveys report some 800 engraved rocks, spread across 130 sites and 21 municipalities. Far from being merely anecdotal, these sites—paradoxically of prime archaeological importance—remain little known to the general public.
What factors account for the lack of visibility of these heritage sites? To what extent does promoting them represent an opportunity for diversification for mountain regions facing the challenge of revitalizing their tourism offerings? What promotional initiatives can be taken to raise the profile of these heritage sites and turn them into resources for the Savoie region?
