september 19, 2018 18:30 - september 19, 2018 8:00 PM

The city of Annecy is organizing a conference on digital transition, on the theme of autonomous cars, on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, in amphi B14, at Polytech Annecy-Chambéry on the Annecy campus.. Students, staff, Polytech engineers, passionate about tomorrow's technologies, or simply curious, you're welcome!

Are you ready to give up driving your car? Nearly half of French people are!

Ever since the spotlight fell on the Google Car - a vehicle without steering wheel or pedals, designed entirely by the famous American firm - autonomous cars have fuelled fantasies and fears. Indeed, there are now numerous full-scale experiments with shuttles and other autonomous vehicles - in Lyon and Lausanne, for example. Yet these so-called driverless cars are far from science fiction. Manufacturers have been working on them for a long time. The proof? The latest models now feature a host of driving assistants - video camera, presence detector, cruise control, automatic parking guidance - which are slowly but surely getting us used to increasingly automated driving.

What are the expected impacts of autonomous cars on road safety and the environment, and also on the quality of life of people penalized by their temporary or permanent inability to drive a car? What new forms of mobility will ultimately emerge? Will it still be worth buying your own car tomorrow? Gone will be the days of garages and parking lots? And what is the dark side of these driverless cars, over which we feel we are losing all control?

Sylvie Landriève, co-director of Forum Vies Mobiles, will shed some light on the subject. Created by the SNCF, the Forum Vies Mobiles is an independent institute for research and forward-thinking on the mobility of today and tomorrow. It has already organized several citizen debates around autonomous cars and their acceptance by the public. The event is organized as part of European Mobility Week.
