Café-science: "Ecological transition: which city for our future?"

march 21, 2024 8:00 PM - march 21, 2024 22:00

On Thursday March 21, 2024 at 8pm at the MJC in Chambéry, the scientific culture association Science Action is organizing a meeting on the theme of "Ecological transition: which city for our future?".

ABOUT THE MEETING

Difficult traffic conditions, air pollution, degraded quality of life... Living in the city seems ever more complicated. And yet, by 2050, there will be around 6 billion city-dwellers in the world. It therefore seems essential to reshape the urban landscape to make it more efficient and more pleasant to live in. Thinking about the city of the future means asking ourselves how we'll be living in thirty or fifty years' time.

Will urban spaces succeed in transforming themselves in a sober way, compatible with a planet with limited resources? Will the city of the future be self-sufficient in energy or food? How can we restore water to its rightful place at the heart of cities? Will there always be cars? Will urban policies integrate social and environmental dimensions?

These are just some of the questions that our speakers will attempt to answer during this café-débate.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

ABOUT CAFÉS SCIENCE

The Cafés Science are an opportunity for the general public to discuss, in a convivial atmosphere, with experts and researchers on a wide range of subjects, often of topical interest. They are organized by the Science-Actions association, in collaboration withuniversité Savoie Mont Blanc, the city of Chambéry, the Astrée cinema and Chambéry's MJC.

These evenings are organized on the principle of debate, based on questions put by the audience to the speakers. They are neither lectures nor conferences. They give everyone the chance to form their own opinions on often complex subjects, for which there is no single or simple solution. They also provide an opportunity to find out more about the research being carried out locally in the Chambéry region and neighbouring areas, by the researchers, engineers and doctors who take part in our evenings on a voluntary basis.

Once a quarter, Cafés Science take the form of a film session called Ciné Science. In this case, the film is shown at the Astrée cinema, at 8:30pm. It is followed by a debate with 2-3 specialists on the theme of the film.
