The Laboratoire d'Annecy de Physique des Particules (LAPP) is organizing a conference entitled " Exploring quantum gravity with gamma-ray astronomy " as part of its "Mercredis du LAPP" program, to be held on February 14, 2024 from 6 to 7 pm at the LAPP premises on the Annecy campus. Prior to the conference, it will be possible to visit the laboratory from 5pm for privileged exchanges with the scientists.

What if the speed of light wasn't constant?
General relativity and quantum mechanics are two of the founding pillars of physics today. Yet these two great theories describing the infinitely large and the infinitely small refuse to agree. In an attempt to bring them together, various models have been proposed, known as quantum gravity. Some predict that photons, or grains of light, may have different speeds. Let's see how this variation, which would be infinitesimal, can be probed using gamma-ray astronomy.
This lecture will be presented by Cyann Plard, PhD student at LAPP.
