HDR defense of Grégory CHATEL

October 19, 2018 2:00 PM - october 19, 2018 18:00

On Friday, October 19, 2018, Grégory CHATEL, a specialist in green chemistry at the Laboratory of Molecular Chemistry and Environment (LCME) atUniversité Savoie Mont Blanc (USMB), will defend his habilitation to direct research (HDR) around his work "Milieux et méthodes d'activation non-conventionnels en chimie verte: réactivités, mécanismes et applications en chimie fine et pour la valorisation de biomasses végétales et de déchets".

The defense will take place at 2pm in the Revard amphitheater, building 8B, on the Bourget-du-Lac campus .

SUMMARY

His research work in green chemistry since 2009 has focused on several themes linked to sonochemistry (the use of power ultrasound in chemistry), ionic liquids (salts with low melting temperatures used as solvents and/or catalysts) and the valorization of plant biomass (from sugars, cellulose, lignin and plant oils). The experience and expertise acquired in these complementary fields within several laboratories are at the origin of his 2018-2023 research project presented as part of this Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR). It focuses on the use of unconventional activation media and methods (ultrasound, microwaves, supercritical fluids and original solvent systems) for green chemistry applications, in particular for fine chemistry (production of "platform" molecules) and the valorization of plant biomasses and waste (extraction/transformation and purification of molecules of interest for the cosmetics and food supplement industries). The three axes of the proposed research strategy are developed through concrete projects of various kinds, between fundamental and applied research.
