CONFERENCE CANCELED
The 2022 Science Festival will kick off at Savoie Mont Blanc University on Friday, October 7 at 6:30 p.m., with a conference/debate entitled: "Hydrogen: the solution of tomorrow?" It will take place at the Polytech engineering school in Annecy, in Lecture Hall B14.
ABOUT THE CONFERENCE
There are high hopes for the generation, storage, and use of hydrogen to produce energy. However, this is a controversial issue because we sometimes only have a partial view of reality. For example, if we only look at the emissions from a hydrogen-powered vehicle, we could easily convince ourselves that this is THE process to adopt for the future. The reality is a little more complex if we consider the entire cycle of hydrogen production and use. Hydrogen is currently the focus of attention and at the heart of a societal debate, with various detractors pointing, for example, to the hidden effects of using hydrogen as a means of combating greenhouse gases.
In order to form an opinion, the fundamentals of scientific analysis in this field will be discussed by Laurent Tabourot, a lecturer and researcher at the SYstème et Matériaux pour la MÉcatronique (SYMME) laboratory, and supplemented by the testimony of Thomas Müller, product development director at the Swedish company SSAB.
SSAB is seeking to revolutionize steel manufacturing through the use of hydrogen, which would be the world's first fossil fuel-free steel manufacturing technology with a virtually zero carbon footprint. Mr. Müller's testimony, as someone whose work is at the heart of this issue, will therefore help to increase our knowledge of the benefits of hydrogen and enable us to objectively assess the value of developing technologies based on its use.
