National Biomechanics Day

April 3, 2024, 9:00 a.m. - April 3, 2024, 8:00 p.m.

The National Biomechanics Day is a celebration of this science in all its forms, open to everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, from the most athletic to the least athletic. Come discover it! Organized by the Interuniversity Laboratory of Motor Biology (LIBM), it will take place on the Bourget du Lac campus on April 3, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m..

About National Biomechanics Day:

For the 2024 edition, the LBIM has been selected by the French Society of Biomechanics (SB) to host the 2024 National Biomechanics Day at the LBIM in Bourget-du-Lac.

This event is scheduled for April 3, 2024, the same date designated internationally by the International Society of Biomechanics in Sports (ISBS).

This is a day of global celebration of biomechanics. While this science is little known to the general public, it is revolutionary and has a significant impact on our society. Biomechanics thus addresses major societal challenges in the fields of health, physical activity and sports, transportation, ergonomics, industrial production, and more. It is an interdisciplinary field situated at the intersection of mechanical engineering and the biological sciences, present at every level of the study of living organisms: the cell, tissue, organ, systems, and the body as a whole.

Schedule for the day:

9 a.m. to 6 p.m.: Workshops. Whether you want to participate or just watch—to chat with scientific experts or simply explore and be amazed, to test your physical abilities or take on a challenge… Any reason is a good reason to come! The workshops will be held in Building 12B (Combe de Savoie), Room 30 of Building 8C (Chartreuse), Rooms 15 and 18 bis of the laboratory in Building 8C (Chartreuse), Room 35 of the laboratory in Building 4C (Entremont), and the EVE building. Workshop details:

– For your next trail run, break out your best heels!
– Testing my endurance with a raclette… Is that even possible?
– Javier Sotomayor: weights in his hands to jump higher?
– What if exercise boosted your ability to concentrate?
– Did Pinocchio really exist? … or how vibration creates illusions!
– How to run like a chamois on flat ground?
– Does my thigh burn more energy than my Twingo?
– Walking to the summit of Mont Blanc!
– Let’s shake hands… or how to measure finger strength!
– Cycling sprint challenge: Go for it, Bardet!
– Put on your superhero suit and see your movements in real time.

7:00–8:00 p.m.: Pint Of Sciences. Inspired by the popular science festival of the same name founded in the United Kingdom in 2013, this final hour will be an opportunity to meet and chat with scientists over drinks and pizza, bringing to a close this wonderful day dedicated to sports and physical activity.
