From November 10 to 30, 2023, the USMB university libraries will be offering themed webinars and information booths at all three campuses to answer your practical questions about open science and to help you learn more about the topic or deepen your existing knowledge.

Program:

  • Friday, November 10 (12:00–12:45): Webinar – Open Science: A Guide, by Maria-Grazia SCRIMIERI (Open Science Project Manager)
    • About the webinar: What do we mean when we say “open science”? What is open science, and why is it becoming increasingly important for researchers? In this webinar, we’ll provide a step-by-step guide, from open resources you can use to key guidelines on data management.
  • Monday, November 13 (12:00 PM – 4:00 PM): Open Science Information Booth – B.U. JACOB (Meeting Room on the 1st Floor)
    • About the booth: Come talk open science with us: Curious? Do you just have a quick question, or would you like to learn more? Feel free to stop by and say hello. The information booths are open to everyone.
  • Friday, November 17 (12:00–12:45): Webinar – Open Access Publishing: But at What Cost? by Julie ALIBERT (Digital Documentation Coordinator) and Maria-Grazia SCRIMIERI (Open Science Project Manager)
    • About the webinar: There are various open-access publishing models, but not all of them are ethical, especially when researchers have to pay to publish. This webinar offers some tips on how to avoid falling into the trap of hybrid journals or predatory publishers, and provides an overview of paid open access in the laboratories at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc.
  • Monday, November 20 (12:00–4:00 p.m.): Open Science Information Booth – Annecy University Library (Tournette Hall)
    • About the booth: Come talk about open science with us. Curious? Do you just have a quick question, or would you like to learn more? Feel free to stop by and say hello. The information booths are open to everyone.
  • Friday, November 24 (12:00–12:45): Webinar - HAL Open Archive: A User's Guide, by Christelle SERRA (HAL USMB Board Member)
    • About the webinar: This webinar will walk you through the open archive step by step: from its new user interface to creating a user account in HAL, and on to depositing your publications and promoting them by creating a CV on the platform. This webinar is intended for all researchers wishing to submit to HAL, whether this is their first time or they are already familiar with the process. For those already familiar with the platform, this is an opportunity to better understand the changes made to the open archive.
  • Monday, November 27 (12:00–4:00 p.m.): Open Science Information Booth – B.U. BOURGET (Room 102)
    • About the booth: Come talk about open science with us. Curious? Do you just have a quick question, or would you like to learn more? Feel free to stop by and say hello. The information booths are open to everyone.
  • Thursday, November 30 (12:00–12:45):  Workshop – Accessing Scientific Articles with a Single Click, by Julie ALIBERT (Digital Resources Coordinator)
    • About the workshop: This hands-on workshop will cover the installation and setup of the Click & Read browser extension, configuring sources and Google Scholar, and troubleshooting. This extension, developed by the CNRS, makes it easier to access the full text of scientific articles. Click & Read aggregates digital resources available through USMB subscriptions—no need to go through the catalog anymore!
