About the seminar

When ski touring blurs the lines: a look at the consequences of the development of ski touring in and outside resorts

Ski touring is a fast-growing sport and leisure activity. More and more people are looking for a safe, organized environment, with marked trails for different levels of difficulty. As a result, and moving away from the idea of free practice in an untouched natural environment, practices are beginning to appear in ski areas, prompting resorts to react. At the same time, the increase in the number of skiers is leading to concentrations in certain natural areas, forming "de facto" resorts whose environmental and tourist consequences have yet to be fully assessed.

The aim of the workshop is to bring together contributions from researchers from all disciplines who can provide food for thought on this evolution in the practice of this mountain activity and consider its implications for the construction of public or private policies for adapting ski areas or practice sites (marketing, economics, sociology, law, geography, tourism, etc.). An exchange with players in the field will enrich the perspective.

This event is organized in collaboration with LabeX ITEM, and more specifically the TSMI program, and the Centre de Droit Privé et Public des Obligations et de la Consommation (CDPPOC) laboratory.

Proposals for papers (approx. 10 lines) should reach Claire Bataillard or Cristina Vignali by September 30, 2018.
