The team at the Solar Academy of the University of Savoie Mont Blanc is organizing the “4Sun 2020” Scientific Solar Summer School from October 19 to 23, 2020, on the Bourget-du-Lac campus.
This inaugural annual event aims to provide young researchers and doctoral students with a multidisciplinary understanding of the solar energy transition at various scales: from solar cells to cities. The 4Sun scientific school also offers a valuable opportunity to network with participants from other countries.
Background and Objectives
Global energy demand is expected to increase by 56% between 2010 and 2040. Solar energy technologies can play a significant role in the energy transition, through passive applications and electricity generation, while helping to address the challenges of climate change, population growth, energy security, water scarcity, economic growth, and increasing urbanization. Solar energy is abundant and widely available, making it particularly well-suited for the building sector. Furthermore, it can serve as a driver of growth, linking economic objectives to the emergence of future technologies. The challenge is to transform this potential into actual electricity generation. This is the ambition of the SOLAR ACADEMY Graduate School at the University of Savoie Mont Blanc, in partnership with the CNRS and the CEA.
The “4Sun 2020” Solar Science Summer School is the first in a series of annual events designed to provide young researchers and doctoral students with multidisciplinary knowledge of the solar energy transition at various scales: from solar cells to cities. The 4Sun Science School also offers a valuable opportunity to network with participants from other countries. Our unique solar campus, situated in a beautiful location at the foot of the Alps and near France’s largest natural lake (Lake Bourget), is an ideal place to meet national and international experts and young researchers from various disciplines.
What's on the program for "4Sun 2020"
The program includes plenary presentations covering various disciplines: solar cell technology, building integration, modeling and data science, law and public policy, economics, and business models.
In addition, thematic workshops, organized as parallel sessions, will provide an opportunity to explore selected topics in greater depth. The workshops will cover solar contracts, experimental evaluations of solar cell performance, experimental evaluations of solar panel and system performance, modeling of solar resources in cities, and more.
Participants will also have the opportunity to bring and present a poster on their current research and to visit the extensive experimental facility at INES (National Institute of Solar Energy). Roundtable discussions on career opportunities (Marie Curie fellowships will be available).
Registration will open in September.
